Introduction To Science 8
It is expected that students will:
- use a kinetic particle model to describe the structure and properties of various states of matter
- categorize a selection of materials as elements, compounds, or mixtures
- assess the properties of materials in terms of their effectiveness for particular uses
- relate the derivation of the symbols to the names of the elements
- give examples to show that the elements are grouped on the periodic table according to similar properties
Take notes on Symbols and the Periodic Table.
Check out Chemical Symbols and Formulas overhead
Do Lesson 15 "The Shorthand of Chemistry" to practice writing symbols.
Examine the Periodic table and break it up into Metals and Non Metals.
Go through the Information Sheet on Metals and Non Metals (using the information from our Periodic Table notes) and watch the Demos. Do quesions 1-5 on the back of the sheet.
Finish research on Elements Project
Work on Chemistry Word Search when done.
