PERIOD FIVE - Science 8
Using Our Processing Skills to Understand Matter
It is expected that students will:
- use a kinetic particle model to describe the structure and properties of various states of matter
- categorize a selection of materials as elements, compounds, or mixtures
Demo "Production of a Toxic Gas from Copper"
Apply our processing skills of estimating, measuring and predicting to do these activities :
make sure your worksheet on reading graduated cylinders and thermometers is handed in.
hand in expermiment three - Measuring the melting point and boiling point of water. Make sure that the graph and questions are complete!
do experiments one (measuring mass) and two (measuring volume). Hand in questions from each.
Take notes of the Kinetic Molecular Theory.
Watch Demo's on Kinetic Molecular Theory.
Do worksheet on Kinetic Molecular Theory.
Define the terms for changes of state : melting, freezing, evaporation, condensation, and sublimation
Draw a phase diagram similar to the one on page 125 of Science 8 Probe, and label it.
Do questions 3 and 6 on page 125 of Science Probe 8.
