Introduction To Science 8





It is expected that students will:


  1. Demo "Blasting Can"

  2. Present Last Day's Homework Posters, on dangerous laboratory procedures. Students should take notes on each procedure as they are presented.

  3. Read the WHMIS notes on Ethanol, have students guess what the substance is.

  4. Study the WHMIS Labels, and examine some chemicals in the lab for examples.

  5. Complete the worksheet called Laboratory Safety.

  6. There will be a short safety quiz next class. You MUST pass it in order to do the labs in this unit. It will not be hard, but you will have an opportunity to rewrite it (during a lunch hour) if necessary.

  7. Vocabulary Activity - The "Chain Link" vocabulary activity will be played during class to get you familliar with the terminology in Chapter One of Science Probe 8.

  8. Create a study sheet (as demonstrated in class) for the vocabulary we have just studied. All of the terms are listed in the Chapter Review on page 20 of Science Probe 8. Make sure that you put down the definition of the word AND at least ONE example.

  9. Complete Activity 1E - Practising Process Skills. Use your study sheet if you have to. Once finished, check your answers with a partner. Complete Discussion Questions 3 under your answers for numbers 1-20.

  10. Give hand out on Writing Lab Reports in Jr. Science. Go over and discuss any questions.

  11. Give introductory notes on Matter, States of Matter, and Mass, Volume and Temperature.
