ENERGY - DAY ONE - Science 8
It is expected that students will:
- distinguish among the various forms of energy
- demonstrate and explain different methods of energy transfer and relate them to daily life
- demonstrate and explain how basic concepts relating to heat and light are used in common applications
- distinguish among reflection, absorption, radiation, and transmission
- compare and contrast reflection and refraction
- demonstrate and explain how colour is perceived in different environments
Demo - Set out devices that use or generate the 10 different forms of energy listed on page 214, have students match the device and the energy form.
On page 214 in your text there are 10 different forms of energy described. Make up a matching question that could be used on a test. Make sure that it includes all ten types, and don't forget to provide an answer key. (10 marks)
Go to page 216 and write down a good definition for energy transformations.
Define input energy and output energy (page 216).
List three examples of devices that use energy transformations and explain the input and output energy in each example. Make sure each example uses DIFFERENT types of energy. (9 marks).
Activity 9C - Energy Transformations (page 217) Draw the Data Table shown and leave enough room for the devices provided. Make sure that you follow instructions and answer ALL of the discussion questions 1-3. (15 marks)
