MOVING and COPYING CELLS

Groups of cells can be moved or copied to other parts of the spreadsheet or another sheet





To Move a group of cells to a new location . Example
  • Move to cell A1. Click and drag down to cell E12. The area should be highlighted
  • Move to the pointer to the edge of the group of cells. The pointer must appear as an arrow
  • Click and drag the group of cells so that the spreadsheet title now starts in B2.

To Copy a group of cells to a new location

  • Repeat the above holding down the key as you drag
  • copy the entire table to another section of the spreadsheet
  • undo the copy (you should now have one table starting in B1
COLOURS AND BORDERS

Excel allows you to alter the colour of both characters and backgrounds.

If you colour in the background you will not see the gridlines when you print

Careful use of colour and lines can greatly enhance the appearance of your sheet.

To alter Background Colour. Example
  • Highlight the whole sheet by clicking on the button at the top of the rows and left of the column headings. (see sketch page 2)
  • From the ToolBars select the Colour Fill icon
  • Select a suitable colour
  • Now highlight your table : Move to cell B2. Click and hold down the left button of the mouse and drag to cell F13. The area should be highlighted
  • From the ToolBars select the Colour Fill icon
  • Select NONE

To add Lines and/or Borders . Example

  • Move to cell B2. Click and hold down the left button of the mouse and drag to cell F13. The area should be highlighted
  • From the ToolBars select the Border Icon
  • Select the thick black outline
  • You will see
