Materials : Textbook : Chemistry - Nelson, Metric Prefix Sheet, Slope Calculation Worksheet, Unit Review Sheet, Penny Lab Sheet

Review : Go over Sig Fig / Scientific Notation Worksheet

Objectives : students should be able to :

1.5. correctly determine the unit of a derived quantity

1.6. use SI units and their accepted alternatives in chemistry

1.7. state the acceptability of numerical results of a lab experiment with regard to the uncertainty of the results

1.8. communicate results and data in clear and understandable forms

1.8.1. graphing techniques

1.8.2. linear relationships and slope

 

Part I : Systeme International d’Unites - Introduction and Notes

Give notes starting "SYSTEME INTERNATIONAL" on page 1-9, defining base units and derived units.

Part II : Dimensional Analysis - Introduction and Notes

Go through detailed examples using Dimensional Analysis on pages 1-9 to 1-11. Stress the importance of canceling units.
